Members of Local 1298 in Connecticut rallied, marched and stayed strong during 18 months of AT&T bargaining that finally led to a tentative contract this week.

CWA members' solidarity during 18 long months of bargaining paid off Wednesday night in Connecticut when Local 1298 reached a tentative agreement with AT&T that includes job protection language the company had refused to include earlier.

"We hung tough, the membership hung tough, we had the support of national, and AT&T knew it and finally realized that 'we're not going to get these guys to move,'" Local 1298 President Bill Henderson said.

The two tentative contracts, one for nearly 3,400 core employees and the other for 176 yellow page workers, are the last in the round of bargaining that CWA and AT&T began at tables nationwide in 2009. Ratification ballots will be sent to members on Monday and must be returned by Sept. 7.

Final Bargaining Report

We are pleased to announce that we have reached a tentative agreement on a new three year contract between CWA and AT&T Midwest.  In these tough economic times, in the most economically depressed part of the country, we have reached an agreement that achieves our key goals:

1)  Maintained and improved our Standard of Living
2)  Increased Pension Band
3)  Enhanced employment security

There are changes in our health care that will result in increased out of pocket costs.  However, when wages and the new company-funded tax-free Healthcare Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs) are factored in, CWA members--from the highest paid to the lowest--are better off, on average, every year of this contract by thousands of dollars a year. Contract explanation is forthcoming, mean while here are some highlights on the key issues on new tentative agreement.

Contract Highlights

·       Contract is for three (3) years

·       Higher base wages (Retroactive to August 8th 2010)

o      Clerical

o      OCT

o      Premise Sales

o      Telephone Sales

·       Enhanced expense package for Sales – includes higher provisions for SMART phones and Iphones

·       Commission plan for Sales designed to grow and retain existing advertisers as well as new business

·       HRA established to defray health care costs

·       National transfer plan

·       Surplus language retains seniority clause

·       Improve language regarding MLK letter 17

·       Established monitoring guidelines

CWA/Midwest Yellow Pages Bargaining Report #13

9:20 am

Bargaining continued well into the early morning hours. Both sides agreed to take a little break, while waiting on additional information, and resume this morning. Although the contract has expired we are still hopeful we can reach an agreement, however, we must begin to prepare ourselves to take this fight to the next level should negotiations break off. We will update this site with any new developments.

Mobilization

Because the contract has expired the mobilization can not. It is more important than ever to show AT&T you want a fair contract.
